In general, I am interested in all aspects of Biodiversity-Ecosystem Functioning relationships but with a special focus on the below-ground and the linkages between above- and below-ground ecosystem components. In this context, I am particularly fascinated by the role of fine roots and their mycorrhizal symbionts as well as mechanisms governing soil organic matter stabilization and the dynamics of nutrient release from decomposing litter.
